Web Design | Development
You are going to see a lot of scary numbers while researching how to start a website. Here is the bare talk about what you need, and what you will be offered.
WordPress is free..
- Ok, so what are you being charged for?
You can download and setup your own WordPress website right now, but the learning curve is quite steep. Most people give up on this and move on to Wix or Squarespace or WordPress.com. Pump the brakes before you commit to one of these services.
You will pay 20x more over the lifetime of your website if you go with an all-in-one. That's not a miscalculation. Subscriptions to these services are quite pricey, and you are locked in for the life of the website. That means you can move your site if you outgrow the service. You have to start from scratch, again.
SO WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?
Find a good development company to build a solid website and pay them once. After that you only pay for hosting, which should be less than $200 a year for small to medium businesses.
You have complete ownership of your entire site, and domain. Expanding is as easy as adding pages.
We have access to hundreds-of-thousands of images, stock copy, and assets. We can stage your site with nothing more than a couple of words about you business.
After that, we have many optional apps to boost your website's performance and tracking ability.
Our expert advice has saved our clients HUNDREDS of dollars a year, and we take pride in offering advice to anyone who asks. If you're not sure what you need, please contact us and we will be happy to walk you through options, free of charge.
Yes! Single page websites are quick to assemble because they are based off of well designed templates. We take one of our custom stock layouts and stage your media and assets.
The cost of one of our brochure websites is DRASTICALLY less than going with an all-in-one, like Wix, Weebly, or Squarespace.
Note: These websites are e-commerce capable, but they do not perform as storefronts out of the box.
A single page website is also referred to as a brochure website. Visitors can scroll top to bottom and see all of the features of your brand. These pages are highly customizable.
Brochure websites are best for small businesses and bloggers who plan to grow over time. When you are ready, expanding the website is as easy as adding pages and dropping our template into them.
Yes, we can set up a digital storefront with industry leading software and security, provided you have a host and a plan that allows for sales traffic (contact your host for more information).
Straight out of the box, we offer true e-commerce websites starting at $2,400 with a 30 day turnaround from contract signing.
Well, yes and no. We can design, develop, and launch your website. First you need a domain name. A domain is www.THISPART.com (or .org, .net, .io, etc.)
You also need a server to host the website. Believe it or not, you can get a domain name and a host for a full e-commerce website WITH SSL certificate for less than $200 a year!
After that, you will need to set up certain features for your website, depending on what you plan to use it for.
We offer TEN FREE HOURS of technician time with every web contract. The last thing that we want is for you to be unhappy with your new site, so we go above and beyond to make sure that it doesn't happen!
The first and best answer to that question is ownership. You don't really own your website when you use an all-in-one. What if you enroll and your business takes off? After 6 months you want to move your site to another host.
too bad...
The tools that you used to build your website are non-transferable. All of the data is stored in a proprietary way and cannot be transferred. A quick Google search will support this information.
Content Management System. WordPress is a CMS because it relies on a database to store details about your site.
There are many alternatives to WordPress, such as Joomla. These alternatives have their pros and cons. The best reason to go with WordPress for your CMS is because everyone develops on it. There is support and documentation for nearly everything that WordPress does.
Web Administration
Most small to medium companies don't have an IT department, so they hire out to a team of specialist, like Orator Media Design. If your website is getting too big for you to handle, we can help.
The first step is a proposal based on the current state of your website. We evaluate vulnerabilities and performance, then deliver a comprehensive contract.
For emergency maintenance we recommend that you contact your host, first. Host companies protect their servers, so the chances are good that critical systems haven't been affected.
A host company may even help with lockouts and data breaches. We are available 7 DAYS A WEEK for our contracted clients, and 5 DAYS A WEEK for hourly repairs.
All we need from you is your host server credentials. We can reset passwords and repair damage straight at the source, without needing to log into your website. Certain plugins or hard-coded apps may require an administrator login, but we will let you know after we diagnose the problem.
Use our contact form to get in touch quickly. Our MTTF is extremely low.
Our 2020-2021 hourly rate is locked at $73 an hour for non-contract clients. If you wish to sign on, then we offer variable rates as low as $24 an hour with a 30 hour minimum for small websites. This contract is paid in full once a year. For this amount you get prompt service for any problem, and a flat rate with no cap on hours to diagnose and fix a problem.
